Assessing Sensitivity of Coastal Areas To Oil Spills

In a report released Oct. 6, non-profit Clear Seas Centre For Responsible Marine Shipping has identified areas on B.C. coast as “very high sensitivity” to oil spill impacts. Some areas got a “very high sensitivity”m places around Haida Gwaii, much of the Prince Rupert shoreline, a few spots on the central coast. Four categories – Biological, Physical, Socio-Economic and Indigenous – were identified to define the attributes of an area along the coast that could be affected by commercial marine shipping.
